Superior HealthPlan Helps 45,000 Texans Gear Up for School at 88 Community Events
The events gave students access to health checkups, school supplies, and other resources ahead of the 2025-26 school year.
AUSTIN, Texas, Aug. 26, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Superior HealthPlan ("Superior"), a leading managed care organization in Texas and a company of Centene (NYSE:CNC), participated in 88 back-to-school events in July and August, providing more than $32,000 in funding to support students as they prepare for a new school year. In all, 45,000 people attended the events in 46 communities across Texas.
"The beginning of a school year should be filled with excitement, not anxiety," said Dr. Susan Mills, Senior Vice President of Population Health and Clinical Operations at Superior HealthPlan. "By supporting these events, Superior is helping families access the care and resources they need to start the year strong – physically, emotionally, and academically."
One key back-to-school event Superior supported this year was the 24th Annual Wellness Fair in Uvalde. Approximately 3,000 people attended the fair at the new Community Health Development, Inc. (CHDI) multi-purpose center, funded partially by Superior and the Centene Foundation.
"It's rewarding to see all the people from the Uvalde area coming here for this event," said Mayela Castañon, CEO of CHDI, a not-for-profit community health center that serves 12,000 people in the region each year. "Thanks in part to support from Superior HealthPlan, we were able to offer backpacks, school supplies, athletic shoes, clothing and haircuts as well as vaccines and health checkups to help students get ready for the school year."
